Adelphi University has been nationally recognized and cited by many well-respected organizations and publications, such as U.S. News and World Report, Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education, Money, Forbes and The Princeton Review as a top choice for quality education.

At a time when higher education is under intense scrutiny to demonstrate its relevance and value, we’re proud to know that other people are taking notice of the great things happening at Adelphi.

U.S. News & World Report: Adelphi Earned Five 2020 Best College Badges

For the second consecutive year, U.S. News & World Report ranked Adelphi University as a Best College nationwide in the National Universities category, in its 2020 rankings. 

Adelphi is ranked on two other U.S. News & World Report lists: the Best College for First-Year Experiences and Best Performer for Social Mobility. The First-Year Experiences rankings are based on the services and programs colleges offer during students’ critical first year, and the Social Mobility ranking examines how well colleges serve low-income students, especially regarding their graduate rates.

Adelphi was also named a U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges for Veterans and Best Value School.

Earlier in March, Adelphi’s Willumstad School of Business’ Part-time MBA program (No. 206), and four of our programs were also named to the 2019 Best Graduate Schools list: Social Work (ranked in the top 20 percent in the nation), Nursing, Speech-Language Pathology, Psychology and Clinical Psychology.


Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education: Top US College, Highest Ranking Among Private Colleges in Long Island

The Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education has once again ranked Adelphi a Top U.S. College in its 2020 rankings, which are based on student success and learning and is a measure of the value of our education. Adelphi jumped 43 ranking points, from 251 last year to 208 this year, putting us in the top 26 percent in the country. 


ForbesAmerica’s Top College

Forbes magazine has once again recognized Adelphi on its 2019 list of America’s Top Colleges. This ranking is an annual review of the undergraduate institutions that deliver the top academics, best experiences, career success and lowest debt. 


The Princeton Review: Best Northeastern College

The Princeton Review has ranked Adelphi University among the Best Northeastern Colleges based on academic offerings and career preparation for students, campus policies, initiatives and activities.

College Factual: Best College Nationwide

College Factual has come out with its annual rankings, and Adelphi moved up overall from the top 20 percent to the top 15 percent out of 1,779 colleges and universities included. Several programs made the cut for Top Rated Programs, including social work (No. 10, same as last year); nursing (No. 12, up one spot); health and physical education (No. 36, up from No. 48); criminal justice and corrections (No. 54, up one spot); business administration and management (No. 55, up from No. 67); and general psychology (No. 86, up from No. 111).

Adelphi University won in three of the Long Island Press2019 Bethpage Best of Long Island categories: Best College President, Best College Sports Coach and Best College Sports Program.

Adelphi President Christine M. Riordan, PhD, was named Best College President for a second time, also winning the honor in 2017.

This is the first time Adelphi has won Best College Sports Program. The Panthers, with nearly 400 student-athletes and 23 intercollegiate teams, continually achieve the highest successes. A proud member of the Division II community of intercollegiate programs that value the scholar-athlete, the University competes in the prestigious Northeast-10 (NE10) Conference.

Women’s lacrosse Head Coach Pat McCabe, named Best College Sports Coach, took over the team in 2014 and has notched a record of 82-6. Under his leadership, the team has earned two national championships and appeared in another national championship final. The squad has also won three Northeast-10 championships, running the team’s total to seven in nine seasons.


Business Insider: 50 Most Underrated Colleges in America

Adelphi University is ranked No. 11 on Business Insider‘s 50 Most Underrated Colleges in America list, which considers two main factors: reputation and future earnings.


Abound: Top MBA Programs

Abound, which is a new initiative from Colleges of Distinction, has launched their inaugural group of Top MBA programs and the Robert B. Willumstad School of Business’s MBA program is recognized as a top program. This national recognition is a testament to our “dedication to develop working professionals into skilled, forward-thinking business leaders”.


Abound: Grad School: National Recognition for Our Professional Graduate Programs

Adelphi has been recognized among the nation’s Top Professional Graduate Degree programs by Abound: Grad School for providing master’s degree-seeking professionals with affordable and flexible options for attending college, accessibility to professors and campus support services, opportunities to accelerate their path to graduation, and preparation for sustained career growth.


American Chemical Society: Approved Chemistry Program

Adelphi’s chemistry program is approved by the American Chemical Society. With an introduction to basic concepts leading to study of the different branches of chemistry and lab experiences, students will have the competency to understand and analyze the most difficult concepts. The program prepares you for graduate work in chemistry, biochemistry, forensics, pharmacy and chemical engineering, or professional schools of medicine and dentistry.

Money Magazine: Best College for Your Money

Money magazine placed Adelphi at 292 on its Best Colleges for Your Money list, which evaluates the 744 best four-year colleges in America for excellence in educational quality, affordability and alumni earnings.

PayScale: Grads’ Salaries in the Top Third in the Nation

PayScalelists Adelphi as a leader among national universities in regard to the all-important return on investment (ROI) factor. Adelphi grads are in the top third in the nation for salaries. PayScale details the outcomes for students, analyzing the average salary of undergraduates and graduate-level students and which employers are hiring graduates in which geographic locations. Adelphi graduates are experiencing a 5 percent annual tuition ROI and a 20-year net return of $292,000.


Niche: Best Value College in America

Niche ranked Adelphi University overall in several categories: We are listed in the top 20 percent of Best Colleges in America, in the top 13 percent for Best College Locations in America, in the top 20 percent for Best Value Colleges in America and in the top third for Best Colleges for Performing Arts in America.


Colleges of Distinction: Teaching Excellence and Career Development

Adelphi has been recognized by the Colleges of Distinction organization for our excellence in four areas: Engagement, Teaching, Community and Outcomes. Diversity and Inclusion

HEED Award: Diverse and Inclusive Campus

Adelphi has received the 2019 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity (HEED) Award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine, the oldest and largest diversity-focused publication in higher education. This national honor recognizes universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity and inclusion. This is the second year Adelphi has been named a HEED Award recipient. It reflects excellence in the recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and faculty, as well as the promotion of an open and welcoming campus climate.


LGBT SportSafe: Gold Medallion Status

The Adelphi University Athletics Department has been awarded gold medallion status, the highest honor given by the organization, by LGBT SportSafe for its efforts in creating an LGBTQ+-inclusive athletic community. We’re one of the first two institutions from the Northeast-10 Conference to earn that status, placing us in the SportSafe Founder’s Club.


Campus Pride: LGBTQ+-inclusive Policy and Practice

Adelphi University’s Garden City campus was elevated to Premier Campus status by the national Campus Pride Index with a ranking of 4.5 out of five stars. This ranking recognizes Adelphi’s institutional commitment to LGBTQ+-inclusive policies, programs and practices.


College Choice: Best Disability Friendly College

Adelphi University has been ranked by College Choice in three areas: among the 50 Best Disability Friendly Colleges and Universities for having shown “a consistent value and priority for meeting the physical, social and academic needs of students with learning disabilities and special needs”; as one of the 30 Best Online Master’s in Emergency Management; and our Sport Management program is ranked one of the 10 best online master’s programs in the nation.


U.S. News & World Report: Best Colleges for Veterans

U.S. News & World Report ranked Adelphi University among the 2020 Best Colleges for Veterans.


Military Friendly® Schools: Best College for Veterans

As a Military Friendly® School, Adelphi is ranked in the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military service members, veterans and spouses as students and ensure their success on campus. The list recognizes only the top 15 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that do the most to embrace America’s veterans as students.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has named Adelphi a Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program school. This means that qualified veterans can attend Adelphi at little or no cost.

The Women’s Choice Award has included Adelphi University as one of the top 300 colleges for women, based on criteria including campus safety, reputation, student-to-faculty ratio, depth of education and four-year graduation rates.

Adelphi Receives 2019 Inspiring Program in STEM Award for Educating Science Teachers

Adelphi University’s New York Noyce STEAM Pipeline: Preparing Next-Gen Science Teachers has been recognized by INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine’s 2019 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award. The honor is given to innovative programs that help members of underrepresented groups entering the science, technology, engineering and math fields. The STEAM Pipeline program is designed to recruit, support and prepare students from underrepresented groups (including women) for meaningful and rewarding careers as science teachers. The five-year, combined bachelor’s and master’s degree program embraces a STEAM (STEM plus Art and Design) approach to engage and instruct students in grades 7 through 12 in courses across the science disciplines. This innovative program was developed by Tracy Hogan, PhD, associate professor in Adelphi’s Ruth S. Ammon School of Education, and Cindy Maguire, PhD, academic director of Adelphi’s Levermore Global Scholars and Art and Design Education programs.


Adelphi Receives Prestigious Award for Personalized Enrollment

At Adelphi, even before students enroll, our entire campus community, including faculty and staff, helps applicants feel welcome. The American Association of University Administrators (AAUA) has recognized our work and named us one of two winners of its 2019 Exemplary Models Award for our unique method of personalizing the enrollment process.


Winner of Two Special Awards for Diversity Initiatives

Perry Greene, PhD, Adelphi’s vice president for diversity and inclusion, has said, “Diversity won’t work unless you have inclusion—unless the people feel welcome at the table.” His numerous initiatives and policies are aimed at making that happen. Dr. Greene received two awards that recognize his leadership in diversity initiatives since Fall 2016—the Long Island Business News Executive Circle Award and the 2019 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Recognition Award from the Nassau County Human Rights Commission.


Winner of 2019 ATHENA Young Professionals Leadership Award

Stephanie Espina, director of freshman admissions at Adelphi, was recently recognized for her accomplishments and mentorship by ATHENA International, which presented her with the 2019 ATHENA Young Professional Leadership Award.


Diverse: Issues in Higher Education: Adelphi President Honored

Diverse: Issues in Higher Education magazine honored Adelphi’s President Christine M. Riordan, PhD as one of 25 Top Women in Higher Education Who Are Making A Difference. 


Long Island Business News: President, Alumnae Named to Top 50 List

Long Island Business News has named Adelphi University President Christine Riordan one of the Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business. Launched in 2000, the Top 50 Women in Business awards recognizes Long Island’s top women professionals for their business acumen, mentoring and community involvement.

Among the honorees are three Adelphi graduates, Regina Gil, MA ’82, of Gold Coast Arts Center and Gold Coast International Film Festival; Kathy Munsch ’93 of the American Heart Association; and Lori Vavrinec ’82 of Fidelis Care. Alumna Ellen M. Labita ’82 of Baker Tilly Virchow Krause, LLP, will be inducted into the hall of fame.


Eduventures Innovation Award

The National Research Center for College and University Admissions (NRCCUA) named Adelphi University one of the winners of the Eduventures 2018 Innovation Awards for its “Personalizing the Enrollment Process” campaign, created to address the changing demographics, declining counts of high school graduates, and increased competition across the higher education enrollment landscape—including the increased presence of programs such as New York state’s Excelsior Scholarship program. Adelphi was one of only two honored by NRCCUA for enrollment management strategies, along with Georgia State University.


Dean of Derner School of Psychology Wins Prestigious Research Award

Jacques Barber, PhD, professor and dean of the Gordon F. Derner School of Psychology, has long been recognized internationally for his research into psychotherapy and his active role in professional organizations. This year, the American Psychological Association’s Division 39 honored him for his lifetime achievements by presenting him with the 2018 Distinguished Psychologist Award for Contributions to Psychology and Psychotherapy
