Adelphi University Mascot and Emblem

Panther pride starts here.

The Adelphi University mascot and emblem, the Panther, was first proposed by a freshman, Jim Young, in 1946.

The Adelphi mascot proposal was accepted by the Athletics Department and was first used by the men’s basketball team in a game against the Aggies of SUNY Farmingdale in January 1947.
