Rajib Sanyal, Ph.D., started as dean of Adelphi's School of Business in 2015. During his time at Adelphi, he led the efforts to create a new M.B.A. curriculum with a global focus.

Rajib Sanyal, Ph.D., started as dean of the AACSB (Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) International-accredited Robert B. Willumstad School of Business on July 1, 2015.

During his time here, Dr. Sanyal led the efforts to create a new M.B.A. curriculum with a global focus. Approved by New York state in summer 2017, the first Global M.B.A. courses were offered at Adelphi University’s Manhattan Center hub in the Fall 2017 semester.

In partnership with the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Sanyal facilitated the creation of the Business of Science Horace McDonell Speaker Series. The goal is to introduce students in the sciences to different types of career possibilities on the business side of scientific enterprises. As part of this program, successful business professionals who studied science in college come to campus to speak to students.

Dean Sanyal also created a lecture series—The Practitioner’s Perspective—that brings business leaders to the Willumstad School to speak on the themes of ethics, sustainability and innovation. This program powerfully complements classroom learning and gives students the opportunity to meet and interact with successful professionals.

Another effort important to Dean Sanyal is the internship program. He has pushed to strengthen the internship office in the Willumstad School. As a result, over 200 employers now recruit students on campus and more than three out of four students graduate having completed at least one internship. All internships are paid or are for academic credit.

Dr. Sanyal earned his undergraduate degrees from the University of Calcutta and the University of Delhi, an M.S. in industrial relations from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a Ph.D. in industrial relations from Georgia State University. An active scholar, he has published extensively in numerous academic journals and is the author of a textbook on international management. He has served on the executive boards of the North American Simulation and Gaming Association (NASAGA), the Academy of International Business (AIB) US Northeast Conference, and the Indiana Council on World Affairs.

Dr. Sanyal held faculty appointments at the business school of The College of New Jersey, where, from 2000 to 2004, he served as a division head of accountancy, economics, finance and international business as well as director of the nonprofit management certificate program. He was an American Council on Education (ACE) fellow at George Mason University in 2004–2005, after which he was dean of the College of Business at Northern Michigan University.

From 2009 until arriving at Adelphi in 2015, he was dean of Ball State University’s Miller College of Business. There, Dr. Sanyal helped to create the university’s Global Health Institute research center, participated in the university’s $200 million fundraising campaign and worked with 15 different academic advisory boards.

Since coming to Adelphi, Dr. Sanyal has served on reaccreditation teams for AACSB and for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools, and has reviewed courses offered by the Marine Corps University for academic credit on behalf of ACE.
